A huge thank you to the guys at Armadillo Self Storage who came and helped out with our recent supermarket collection at Asda. Sue from Armadillo is pictured here with foodbank manager Paul Edwards and one of our volunteers, Kevin.

We have partnered with Armadillo for over a year, they help us with our storage needs and have also donated various items of toileteries to the foodbank.

Thank you for your continued support!

Could your workplace help collect for the foodbank?

We are looking for a number of local businesses to help us by collecting food from staff. This could either be done on a simple donation system or maybe you could hold a dress down day and ask members of staff to bring food instead of money.

We have all the resources available for your workplace including posters, food lists and collection boxes. If you think you might be able to help please e-mail foodbank@frontline.org.uk

Thank you to staff from John Moores University, MSB Solicitors, Barclays, Tesco Park Road, O2, Addaction, Venture Housing and Riverside for your collections!

Central Liverpool Foodbank, based at Frontline Church in Wavetree, has just fed its 1000th person, only 8 months since the service first opened.
More than 300 of those fed were children, with many parents saying they regularly choose to go hungry themselves to ensure that their children can have something to eat. Foodbanks provide a minimum of 3 days emergency food and support to local people in crisis. People have to obtain a voucher before they can receive a food parcel and each person is allowed to visit the foodbank a maximum of 3 times. Frontline’s Foodbank has more than 60 voucher distributors, including the Citizen’s Advice Bureau and various housing associations.  It is clear that the need for services like this is growing exponentially, with four other Foodbanks being set up in Liverpool within the last year. From January, Central Liverpool Foodbank will also start opening for an extra day each week because the need is so great.
Foodbank Manager Paul Edwards said: “This is a really busy period for us at Foodbank. People accessing the service are telling us that they don’t have enough money left once they’ve paid their bills to feed themselves or their children. “It breaks our heart to see this happening to families in Liverpool. But that is what we’re here for - to feed hungry people in need, no matter who they are or what has caused their crisis.”
Riverside Housing has been one of Foodbank’s greatest supporters, as well as Liverpool Housing Trust, Armadillo Storage, and numerous other businesses, supermarkets, schools and individuals. We want to say a massive thank you to all who have donated so generously over the last few months!

Foodbanks are opening at an unprecedented rate to meet the high demand for emergency food aid: in 2011 The Trussell Trust has launched a new foodbank every week, launching its 100th UK foodbank this week. We've also launched our first international foodbank in Sofia, Bulgaria.

61,000 people nationwide have received emergency food handouts from The Trussell Trust's UK foodbanks in the last 12 months, 50% more than last year. Most foodbank recipients are not homeless; they are low-income working families who hit crisis, people who have been made redundant or people experiencing benefits delays. We are excited that more and more churches and communities across the UK are seeing the need on their doorsteps and working with us to launch more foodbanks.

Could your local church launch a foodbank?

You're more likely to know him for his roles in Love Actually and Pirates of the Caribbean rather than combatting poverty, but actor Bill Nighy is a keen campaigner on social justice. As one of the voices of the Robin Hood Tax campaign, Bill wanted to find out more about UK poverty and Oxfam suggested that he visit a Trussell Trust foodbank!

On Wednesday we took Bill to Hammersmith and Fulham foodbank where he met foodbank clients, heard their stories and even packed a foodbox himself. At the end of his visit we asked Bill what he thought, he told us: 'It's very moving to come here in modern times to see a room incredibly well stocked with donated food for people who, through no fault of their own, have dropped through the cracks. The fact that the people here volunteer to help is both touching and exemplary. I salute all those involved.'
